Elgin garden walk to fund scholarships for women

Sponsored by the Elgin Area American Association of University Women, the garden walk will feature seven west side city gardens of Elgin from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 23.

Included as one of the garden sites is Hawthorne Hill Nature Center, which will feature native plants and also feature local artists exhibiting and painting on site.

Artists include Carol and Ed Zack, Charles Cassell, and Marvin Causey. All are well known in the area.

Suzanne Massion, another well-known local artist. will be painting on site, or “plein air,” as Suzanne describes her presentation. She will be painting at the home of Dan and Terri Grow, 619 Woodridge, Elgin.

The garden of Pat Hill, well-known native plant gardener and author, also will be included. Her historic Sears home is 626 Orange St.

Tickets are $12 in advance and $15 the day of the walk. They are on sale on Elgin Jewel stores, South Elgin Jewel store, Ace Ziegler’s Hardware stores on Spring Street and on Lillian street in Elgin, Books at Sunset in Elgin, Heinz Garden Center in St. Charles and Countryside Nursery in Crystal Lake.
