The Libertyville Little League 2012 Varsity All-Star game was held June 15. Thirty youth baseball players ages 11 and 12, including five players from each of the six teams, were chosen by their peers to participate in the annual exhibition game.
Butler Park hosted a capacity crowd of excited parents and friends as the Libertyville National League Varsity team won the game 11-10 with a walk-off single by Connor Landmeir in bottom of seventh inning.
During the annual Home Run Derby, Varsity Division Director Paul Jaworski threw 247 pitches, as Grant Cutting narrowly defeated John McGuan after two intense tiebreaker rounds. The crowd was also amazed at the all-star players’ fielding skills, too, as Mike Flanagan defeated Bryce Pinsel in a playoff round of the outfield-to-home plate throwing accuracy competition.
The all-star game also signals the start of the 2012 spring season double elimination playoffs to determine this year’s champion.
