Arlington Heights Promenade of Art begins Saturday
The Arlington Heights Promenade of Art is a free festival that begins at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 23, at 121 W. Campbell St., Arlington Heights. It continues on Sunday.
The promenade, produced by Amdur Productions in association with the village of Arlington Heights, is in its 10th year.
It consists of 150 artists chosen from around the country by art teachers, collectors and other art aficionados. The artists and their artwork will be present. Their artwork consists of a variety of mediums, including ceramics, fiber, glass, jewelry, sculpture, mixed media, paintings, drawings, photography, printmaking, wood and furniture. The costs of these works of art range from $20 to several thousands of dollars, and many of the artists also accept commissions.
The Promenade of Art not only showcases and sells completed work, but also provides interactive demonstrations in which visitors can see how artists create their art.
Owner of Amdur Productions Amy Amdur’s advice is to “make a day of it.”
There are activities aside from looking at and buying art to round out a day of entertainment. The Promenade of Art also includes live music, food from neighboring restaurants and art activities for kids like an art scavenger hunt, spin art and a pottery wheel provided by Arlington Heights pottery store Thrown Elements.
Festival parking is free, and Amdur doesn’t expect that the event will be uncomfortably overcrowded. However, she recommends coming early to avoid the biggest crowds.
She especially recommends going to see the works of artists garden photographer Shelly Lawler, painter Edward Park, wood furniture maker Steven Spiro and Arlington Heights artists Jane and Craig Love.
“There is something for everybody at this festival,” Amdur said.
