Palatine’s Immanuel boys track team earns second at state
The boys track and field team from Immanuel Lutheran School in Palatine captured the runner-up title at the 23rd annual Lutheran Sports Association Illinois State Track & Field Championships at Concordia University in River Forest May 12-13.
The Bobcats also set a new state record in the 4x800 meter relay with a time of 9:36.32. The record-setting relay team included seventh-graders Nate Izewski, Britt Sease, Dylan Tapia and eighth-grader Matt Ulrich.
The boys also placed another 11 athletes on the awards podium in seven other events: 800 meter: Nate Rathe (second), Nate Izewski (fourth) and Britt Sease (eighth); 1600 meter: Natt Ulrich (second); Nate Izewski (third) and Britt Sease (seventh); 110 meter hurdles: Nate Rathe (fourth); triple jump: Nate Rathe (sixth); shot put: Mark Pollard (seventh); and high jump: Jonah Kaufmann (sixth).
Competing with 34 teams from across the state of Illinois, the boys team finished with a team score of 57 points.
The Lady Bobcats finished in sixth place in a field of 33 girls teams. Setting the pace for the Lady Bobcats were Anna LaValle (second in the 800 meter run); Tiana Henderson (fourth in the 200 meter dash); and the 4x800 meter relay team of Brenna Fathers, Claire Fathers, Anna LaValle and fourth-grader Jane Smith (second).
The Lady Bobcats finished with a team score of 31 points.
