Gurnee OKs memorial park plans
Despite a trustee’s ongoing lawsuit against the village, Gurnee officials last night approved their end of an agreement the mayor says will lead to construction of a memorial park for soldiers who died in Iraq and Afghanistan. Heroes of Freedom Memorial Park would rise on a 1-acre site on Old Grand Avenue, where Gurnee’s police headquarters once stood. Full story.
Prosecutors: Former N. Aurora man dangerous
Daniel P. Stage Jr., formerly of Aurora and North Aurora, won’t be released from prison today as scheduled. Instead, the 37-year-old will be detained until authorities decide whether to declare him a sexually violent person. Stage has served a four-year prison sentence for aggravated criminal sexual, but the Illinois attorney general’s office believes he remains a serious threat to others and want to commit him. Protesters urge Arlington Heights to allow housing
About 70 supporters of a rental project for low-income people with mental illness demonstrated Monday at the Arlington Heights board meeting, urging the board to allow construction of the apartments and settle a lawsuit that has cost the village $206,000 so far. Full story.
Barrington Hills residents address horse boarding
About 200 residents showed up to a Barrington Hills zoning board meeting Monday night concerned about a proposed change to the village code regarding commercial horse boarding. Most people spoke against the amendment, which would allow the home occupation businesses if machinery were operated and nonresidents were on site only during business hours. Full story.

Traffic
No accidents or major delays are being reported early this morning. Motorists are urged to be careful around bridge construction on I-290 over Illinois Route 64, Mill Road, and Hillside Road in Addison. Bridge construction is scheduled to continue until late June.
Cubs trounce Sox 12-3 in Game 1
The White Sox threw four pitchers at the Cubs, but the hits just kept on coming. With the wind at their backs, the Cubs’ batters exploded for 5 home runs and 15 hits en route to a 12-3 rout over the Sox last night at U.S. Cellular Field. It was the first game in a three-game series, and the smallest crowd to ever see the Cubs-Sox game since the cross-town series began. Full story.
