Cubs fans should pull for Sox this year
Hey, Sox fans — don't look now, but the Detroit Tigers are playing some good baseball.
Thank goodness the Cubs are at U.S. Cellular Field this week because they started the Sox' rise to first in the Central when they were swept by the Pale Hose at Wrigley Field.
The Sox/Cubs rivalry is fun, but if you want playoff baseball in Chicago, the Cubs have to cooperate and help out. With Theo Epstein in command, the Cubs will surely get better. But for this year the White Sox are our only hope.
Cubs fans can't like the Tigers after Detroit's fans came to town and took over Wrigley and had their way. It had to have irritated them.
Besides, I believe most Cubs fans deep down root for the White Sox anyway. In 2005 on the North Side, I never saw more Sox paraphernalia in my life. Seems to me there are tons of closet Sox fans, or maybe just band wagoners.
Not so death-defying:
Nik Wallenda, the tightrope walker, dishonored his famous family name by wearing a safety device. If he fell, he would not have died.
The point is, when it's called a death-defying feat it should be just that.
Politics got in the way. Walking across Niagara Falls is great. But a tourist who bungee jumps off a bridge is in more danger than Wallenda was.
Who's blowing smoke?
Radio's Dan McNeil is back at work and doing well. He credits getting off the killer weed to help him function better as a useful person to society. It was hindering his ability, plus he says it's more of an issue to him than the firewater.
In the meantime, Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel and New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg want to legalize small amounts of marijuana cause it ain't that bad for ya.
I'm confused.
A real Webb gem:
Webb Simpson won the U.S. Open. When I first heard the name, I thought he was a shortstop for the Pirates or the Royals.
The venue was great, the tourney was tough but fair, and the 25-1 long shot rose to the occasion. Good for him.
And to Phil Mickelson, Rory McIlroy, Tiger Woods and Lee Westwood, can you say overhyped?
Key game for LeHaters:
So LeBron James is getting all the calls, but Kevin Durant isn't. So Dwayne Wade is getting all the calls, but Russell Westbrook isn't. James Harden isn't ready, but it looks like LeBron is.
That being said, who really knows?
What I do know is if Oklahoma wins tonight it's best of three. If Miami wins tonight, it's gonna be a long summer for the LeBron Haters.

Can't tell you how excited I am to work with the Daily Herald on a daily basis. My dad never dug sports radio that much, but he read at least three books a week and loved the printed word. He would have really liked his kid as a columnist.
He heard me yapping about sports my whole life, so by the time I got into sports radio he had heard it all before.
