Holst Named Lombard Fire Department Interim Fire Chief

“I asked Chief Holst to serve as Interim Fire Chief since I knew he wanted to be a candidate for the Chief's position,” said Lombard Village Manager Dave Hulseberg. “He brings forth the experience and respect of the department and this will give me an opportunity to evaluate him in that role,” Hulseberg added.

Holst, a 27-year veteran of the Lombard Fire Department, has held the rank of Battalion Chief with the Fire Department for the past two years. During his tenure with the Fire Department, Holst has worked his way up through the ranks and currently serves as the department's Training Coordinator.

During his career in Lombard, Holst has served as Technical Rescue Advisor, Hazardous Materials Team Member, Technical Rescue Team Leader and Assistant Emergency Services Coordinator.

“I have served my entire career in Lombard as this is where my heart is,” said Holst. “I've raised my family and have been fortunate to do a job I love, right here in my hometown. I will continue to strive to deliver the highest quality service to our citizens with passion and dedication,” he added.

Holst studied criminal justice and psychology at the University of Illinois, Chicago. He is a member of the Illinois Fire Chiefs Association and Illinois Society of Fire Service Instructors. Holst replaces Jerry Howell as Interim Fire Chief and Howell will resume the position of Lombard's Assistant Fire Chief.

The formal search process for Lombard's Fire Chief is expected to begin in July.
