Walker types will destroy middle class

The disgusting columnist, George Will, has proved again (June 5) his deep contempt for democracy and his hatred for working people. He would have us believe that public employees fighting the attempt of Gov. Scott Walker of Wisconsin to deny them collective bargaining rights are “childish” sons of “privilege” who should “grow up.” Not a word here of the millions of dollars given to Walker by billionaires like the Koch Brothers and others who are the true face of outrageous, overbearing privilege in our country!

What’s really at stake here is the future of the middle class and, therefore, of democracy in America. Control of our economy is concentrated in the hands of a small class of owners and managers of enormous corporations who have used globalization to destroy collective bargaining for private sector workers. These parasites are now pouring millions into politics in an attempt to destroy the rights of public sector workers. The end of all this will be the disappearance of the middle class and the emergence of the United States as the world’s largest banana republic.

We already exhibit many of the signs of a Third World country: among others, increasing official violence against citizens, an enormous and growing prison population, extreme maldistribution of income, massive unemployment, and a warmongering foreign policy with constant invasions of foreign countries. Our politics have become a form of civil war with billionaires and their shills trying to turn groups of working people against each other (“Divide and conquer,” as Scott Walker says).

Far from being “children,” the Wisconsin public employees who are fighting this are heroes of democracy, and hirelings like George Will should be condemned as foul-hearted traitors to everything good in America.
