Add line-item veto to term limits

I fully agree with Charles L. Barr Jr. and his letter to the editor on Sunday, June 10, on term limits. I would like to take it a few steps further.

First I would like to advocate a line-item veto so each bill would have to stand on its own merits instead of looking like a Christmas tree with all the added earmarks and special interests added to it.

Second, Congress should not pass any legislation that does not affect them also, but only us lowly taxpayers.

Third, Congress should have to provide their own retirement and have the same health care that is being forced on us; no more unlimited benefits for life.

Fourth, Congress would have to participate in Social Security and no longer get bloated pensions for life for their elected “term limit” service. This would make Congress more accountable to the people who elected them instead of them spending so much time, energy and our money to get re-elected.

I believe this would go a long, long way to solving a lot of our problems.
