Soreness delays Danks' return

Ideally, White Sox left-hander John Danks was going to make one rehab start with Class AAA Charlotte, come off the disabled list and return to the rotation in time to face the Cubs next week at U.S. Cellular Field.

Realistically, Danks' return remains uncertain.

After throwing 61 pitches while working 4 innings for Charlotte on Tuesday, Danks is still experiencing soreness.

That is not a huge surprise, considering Danks last pitched for the Sox on May 19, against the Cubs at Wrigley Field.

But Danks was not able to throw a scheduled side session on Friday before the White Sox opened a three-game interleague series at Dodger Stadium.

According to reports from Los Angeles, Danks is going to see Dr. Gregory Nicholson in Chicago on Monday.

“We're doing everything we know what to do to make it feel better, but it's not getting there,” Danks told reporters. “We haven't gotten over that hump yet.”

As long as Danks remains on the DL, struggling starters Philip Humber and Gavin Floyd are likely to remain in the Sox' starting rotation.

Jose Quintana, who has done a solid job filling in for Danks, starts against the Dodgers on Sunday.
