Pregnant woman sues in police stun-gun incident
A pregnant woman who says Chicago police shocked her with a stun gun during a parking ticket dispute is suing.
Lawyers filed the lawsuit for 30-year-old Tiffany Rent on Thursday in U.S. District Court in Chicago. It names the city, police and officers, and asks for more than $75,000.
Police have said Rent tore up a ticket for parking in a disabled space and threw it in an officer’s face. The officer shocked her as she attempted to drive away. The lawsuit says the June 5 shock added risk to her pregnancy.
Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy said earlier it isn’t always clear if a woman is pregnant during such incidents. But Rent said the officer must have known.
A message left for the city’s legal department wasn’t immediately returned.
