Lake County Chamber hosts Navy Opportunity Day luncheon
On Wednesday, June 20, 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Lake County Chamber of Commerce, joined by participating sponsors including the U.S. Navy League, North Chicago Chamber and Kenosha Area Chambers of Commerce, will host the Fourth Annual Navy Opportunity Day at Naval Station Great Lakes, 30 Paul Jones St., North Chicago.
This annual luncheon provides business organizations with an opportunity to learn more about construction projects slated for Lake County and developments currently under way within the region and throughout the Midwest.
For the first year, contractual information with the U.S. Coast Guard will also be presented. Most recently, the U.S. Senate Appropriations Committee voted to approve a military Construction, Veterans Affairs and Related Agencies Appropriations bill which included two major projects for next fiscal year: the Tri-Care Drug Laboratory at Great Lakes worth $28.7 million and a new $28 million Army reserve Center at Fort Sheridan.
In addition to construction projects, information regarding a wide range of nonconstruction government service opportunities will be summarized. Detailed information and process instructions related to the bid process will also be outlined.
“One of the major roles of the Navy League is to be an interface between the Navy and the local business community. We are delighted to have this opportunity to share this information about new construction and development projects with the Navy, U.S. Coast Guard and the Veterans Administration,” said Don Martin, vice president of the Lake County Council of the United States Navy League.
Captain Randall John Lynch, commanding officer Naval Station Great Lakes and Commander Lisa Baker of the Captain James A. Lovell Federal Health Care Center will be the featured speakers with additional speakers to be announced.
“We are always seeking new ways to support business growth and economic development in Lake County,” states Nathan Streeter, chairman of the Lake County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors. “This growing partnership with the Navy League represents a great opportunity to accomplish this as we facilitate the enhancement of business relationships with leading Lake County government institutions.”
