Wheeling bike rodeo on Saturday

The Wheeling Police Department and the Wheeling Park District will be hosting a free bike rodeo on from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 16, at Heritage Park.

The event will be in the north parking lot right behind the Wheeling Police Department. The purpose of the event is to enhance bicycle safety, fun and awareness.

The event is geared toward children from 4-12 years of age, but there will be additional courses for bike riders of all ages.

The event will include: free bike safety checks by technicians from the Village Cycle Bike Shop in Arlington Heights, bike registration by the Wheeling Police Department, bike helmet checks by the Wheeling Wheelmen Bicycle Club, skills courses, simulated traffic situations, free hot dogs, chips, water and pop and several other giveaways.

Other organizations making donations to this event include the Active Transportation Alliance, the Knights of Columbus, Target, Sams Club, Wal-Mart and Always Amazing.
