Lake County Forest Preserve District’s summer concert series begins June 19

Music lovers of many styles can see award-winning performers at the Lake County Forest Preserve District’s eight-week summer “Events in the Plaza” concert series in Independence Grove Forest Preserve in Libertyville.

The 2012 lineup brings critically acclaimed recording artists performing their original sounds.

The series kicks off 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 19, with Old Californio, rising stars of folk rock performing in Libertyville on their nationwide tour. Week two features Big James and the Playboys fresh off the 2012 Chicago Blues Festival main stage.

Tradition takes center stage on July 3 when the Naval Band Great Lakes performs the musical strains of America’s soul and spirit.

Concerts begin at 7:30 p.m. and are offered June 19 and 26; July 3, 10, 17, 24 and 31; and Aug. 7, weather permitting. In case of a rainout, concerts are held Thursday of the same week. Entertainment may change on rainout concerts. View full concert schedule at lcfpd.org.

Concerts are open to all ages and are held at Independence Grove’s outdoor amphitheater, Millennia Plaza. Bring a blanket or lawn chair for seating.

The walk-up cafe is open during concerts and serves a variety of entrees, snacks or beverages.

Parking is $5 per car after 5 p.m. on concert days. To ensure safety and enjoyment, cars are turned away when parking is full. For your safety and neighborly courtesy, park only in the preserve.
