Campton Hills woman killed in head-on crash
A Campton Hills woman died shortly after a head-on collision Tuesday afternoon on LaFox Road, according to police.
Lurra Ciabattari was driving a 2002 Hyundai carryall northbound on LaFox near Grand Monde when her vehicle swerved onto the shoulder twice before crossing the centerline, said Campton Hills Police Chief Dan Hoffman.
The Hyundai struck a southbound 2012 Nissan Altima driven by a Sycamore man head-on at about 2:36 p.m. The Hyundai rolled onto its side and the Nissan ended up in a ditch after the collision, police said.
Ciabattari, 64, and the Sycamore man were both taken to Delnor Hospital, where Ciabattari was pronounced dead shortly after, according to police.
The Sycamore man was being treated for non life-threatening injuries.
Hoffman said there were no indications of alcohol playing a role in the crash, and police think the woman might have suffered an illness or some sort of medical emergency before the crash.
The Kane County Accident Reconstruction Team is assisting Campton Hills police in the investigation.
The roadway was shut down until about 5 p.m., while police investigated the crash.
