Cougars fall 4-1 to Peoria

Left-hander Kyler Burke carried a perfect game into the sixth inning as the host Peoria Chiefs defeated the Kane County Cougars with a 4-1 victory Saturday night at O'Brien Field.

Burke (2-2) didn't allow a baserunner until Dean Espy opened the sixth inning with a single for Kane County (33-29). Lane Adams added an infield hit in the seventh as Burke posted 7 scoreless innings, walking none and striking out nine.

All 4 Chiefs runs came in the opening inning against Scott Alexander (2-3). Zeke DeVoss walked to start the first and advanced to second on a single by Pin-Chieh Chen. Paul Hoilman doubled DeVoss home to put the Chiefs on the board.

A throwing error by Michael Antonio prolonged the inning as Chen came home when Antonio tried to retire Javier Baez at first base. Two batters later Sergio Burruel hit a 2-run single to center, bringing home Hoilman and Baez.

Alexander left the game with an apparent injury and was replaced by Jason Mitchell, who worked 5 shutout innings.

The Cougars got their run in the eighth when Yowill Espinal scored on a wild pitch.
