Politics adds to Cubs curse

Forget the outdated billy goat curse. The Chicago Cubs now have the taint of racism on them in the form of Joe Ricketts’ intended racially tinged Super PAC ad campaign against the president of the United States. This billionaire Romney supporter bankrolled the purchase of the Cubs and saw that his son Tom was installed as its chairman.

In a recent lengthy interview on WSCR-AM, the junior Ricketts attempted to cliché his way out of this PR mess, saying that what the Cubs organization represents and what his TD Ameritrade founder father does politically are “apples and oranges.” Incredibly, this hypercapitalistic, superwealthy family is trying to finagle $300 million in corporate welfare from the public trough to prop up their private investment.

Incidentally, at no point in this interview packed with deflection, denial and insincerity did Tom Ricketts voice any respect for the president so as to counterbalance his father’s disparaging views. This just goes to show that the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.
