Man killed by freight train in Geneva
A man died early Saturday morning after being hit by a freight train in Geneva, authorities said.
Geneva police responded at about 12:50 a.m. to a report of a person having been struck by a train west of the train station in downtown Geneva, according to a news release from the Geneva Police Department.
The original report said that the conductor of an eastbound Union Pacific freight train reported striking an unknown object. A second eastbound Union Pacific freight train discovered it was a person, the release said.
The man, whose identity has not yet been determined, was dead when authorities arrived, the release said.
The accident is being investigated by the Geneva Police Department, the Kane County accident reconstruction team, Union Pacific police, Metra police and the Kane County Coroner's office.
