Police continue to investigate the slaying of a male teenager Thursday night. The shooting occurred about 7:45 p.m., but authorities released no other details. The victim’s name and age were being withheld pending notification of his family. Full story.

44 illegal immigrants rounded up

A five-day sweep resulted in the arrests of 44 convicted criminal aliens, immigration fugitives and immigration violators this week, including some in Aurora, West Chicago, Geneva, Carpentserville, Carol Stream, Hanover Park, Glendale Heights, Medinah, Lombard, Elgin, Des Plaines and Schaumburg. Weapons possession, domestic battery, aggravated drunken driving, arson, drugs and burglary were part of the criminal history for 34 of those arrested. Full story.

No carte blanche for COD

A DuPage County zoning panel refused to consider College of DuPage’s long-term campus expansion plans Thursday night, recommending that college officials bring back specifics when the structures are ready to be built. The panel on Thursday could have recommended all future projects listed on the college’s planned development application be approved in one fell swoop, but board members cautioned against giving COD “carte blanche” for projects five, 10 or more years down the line. Chicago Symphony coming to DuPage County?

The Chicago Symphony Orchestra may expand into the Western suburbs, and DuPage County leaders are helping to determine whether the move is feasible. Symphony spokeswoman Raechal Alexander said CSO is in “very preliminary” discussions with elected officials and Choose DuPage, the county’s public-private economic development group. Studio Movie Grill opens tonight

Fresh fruit, Thai salads and even a selection of wines are some of the staples available to moviegoers at the new Studio Movie Grill opening tonight at 301 Rice Lake Square in Wheaton. At a time when movie attendance is shrinking, “in-theater dining” is revamping the traditional moviegoing experience, trade experts say. The Wheaton facility, which provides just that, marks the ninth location for Studio Movie Grill, a Dallas-based company founded in 2000. Full story.

Bandits open with a win

The Chicago Bandits will try to improve to 2-0 tonight in Rosemont. Last night, pitcher Monica Abbott held the USSA Pride to 1 hit in a 4-1, season-opening victory. An announced crowd of 924 fans, many of them youth softball players in full uniform, came out to see the Bandits defeat the same team they beat in the final game of the 2011 season to clinch the National Pro Fastpitch championship. Hudson atones for miscues at third base

Orlando Hudson drove in the winning run with two outs in the bottom of the ninth Thursday night, sending the White Sox to a 4-3 victory at home over Toronto. His big hit made up for a shaky night defensively at third base. Scot Gregor has the full story.

Garza, LaHair on 4-3 loss: ‘It is what it is’

The Cubs lost again Thursday after 10 innings at Miller Park. Casey Coleman gave up a game-winning home run to Norichika Aokiv, bringing the final score to 4-3. Pitcher Matt Garza turned in a quality start and first baseman Bryan LaHair gave the team a short-lived 3-2 lead in the eighth inning. Full story.
