Lutheran World Relief president to speak at Palatine church
The Rev. Dr. John Nunes, president and chief executive officer of Lutheran World Relief, will preach at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Palatine at 5 p.m. Saturday, June 16, and during the 8, 9:15 and 10:45 a.m. services Sunday, June 17.
In his sermon, “Learning from the Birds and the Trees,” Dr. Nunes suggests that “we can learn several things about life from the birds and the trees based not only on what we see in nature, but based primarily on the words of God’s prophet, Ezekiel.”
Dr. Nunes will also share the latest information about Lutheran World Relief’s efforts to help people throughout the world.
Lutheran World Relief, based in Baltimore, is a $42 million global organization working in 17 countries to end poverty, injustice and human suffering worldwide. Lutheran World Relief is also a partner in the Lutheran Malaria Initiative, which mobilizes U.S. Lutherans in the global effort to eliminate malaria deaths in Africa by 2015.
Immanuel Lutheran Church and School is at 200 North Plum Grove Road (at Wood Street) in downtown Palatine, just two blocks east of the Palatine Metra Train Station.
