CCU hosts citizenship workshop on June 9 in Volo

Consumers Credit Union is hosting a citizenship workshop at its Volo office.

The workshop will help eligible legal applicants understand the procedure so they can start down the path toward obtaining U.S. citizenship.

The citizenship workshop is set for Saturday, June 9. CCU is hosting the workshop in collaboration with the New American Initiative Program, North Suburbs Collaborative formed by the Fr. Gary Graf Center, HACES, Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society and Hanul Family Alliance.

“Consumers Credit Union is very pleased to have the opportunity to help new Americans achieve their dream of U.S. citizenship,” said Sean M. Rathjen, CCU president. “The New American Initiative offers eligible applicants useful direction by providing the tools and specific steps required to achieve their citizenship. This workshop is just one of the ways we can assist those who came to this country seeking a better way of life in their quest to obtain citizenship.”

In the last few years, the cost of citizenship applications has skyrocketed, leaving many eligible legal permanent residents without the opportunity to apply to become citizens. In order to assist eligible legal permanent, CCU developed its Citizenship Loan program.

The New Americans Initiative Collaborative verifies the applicant’s eligibility for citizenship, then assists them with the loan application. The credit union offers the loans at a low fixed rate, with repayment spread over 10 months.

Here are the details for the workshop: Saturday, June 9 from 9 a.m. to noon, CCU’s Volo Branch, 195 E. Route 120, Volo. No advance registration required.
