Villa Park man charged in child sex assault

A Villa Park man accused of sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl was ordered held Tuesday on $400,000 bail.

Roberto Trujillo, 55, of the 1600 block of South Michigan Avenue, appeared in DuPage County bond court on a charge of criminal sexual assault.

Assistant State’s Attorney Bethany Jackson said Trujillo assaulted the victim, who was known to him, on several occasions between July 2011 and last month. In a police interview, he admitted having “inappropriate contact” with the girl, Jackson said in court.

Judge Elizabeth Sexton set bail at $400,000, meaning Trujillo would have to post $40,000 to bond out of jail. Should he be released, he must wear a tracking device and have no contact with minors, the judge ordered.

Trujillo is charged with a Class 1 felony typically punishable by up to 15 years in prison. He is next scheduled to appear in court June 18 before Judge Robert Kleeman.
