Police call death of man found near Batavia trail ‘suspicious’

Authorities continue to investigate the death of a 46-year-old man whose body was found Monday morning along the Fox River Trail in Batavia. The man, whose name police were withholding, showed signs of injuries but was not shot, according to authorities. Police called the death “suspicious in nature,” but they did not elaborate. DEA agents find stolen Super Bowl ring during search of Des Plaines home

Federal agents conducting a search of a Des Plaines home in connection to a major drug trafficking operation with direct ties to Mexico discovered a large sum of cash and a stolen Green Bay Packets Super Bowl ring. The operation resulted in charges against seven “major players” in the heroin drug trade and the seizure of 20 kilograms of heroin, more than $1 million, weapons and jewelry. Full story.

Will today’s Wis. recall vote affect Illinois labor?

Wisconsin voters are hitting the polls today during a historic recall vote that will decide the fate of Gov. Scott Walker. Walker gutted collective bargaining rights for most of his state’s public workers, which prompted the recall effort. Some labor experts argue the protests, which drew more than 100,000 to Madison, forced the Illinois state government to back off on similar efforts to cut bargaining rights. Full story.

Schaumburg Township officials fight low-income dental clinic

A mobile dental clinic for low-income Schaumburg Township residents has been running off its own generator because two township leaders disagree on whether it should be allowed to plug into a highway department electrical supply near a garage. The highway commissioner shut off the van’s power because he said someone could be struck by a vehicle near the garage door, despite admitting the chances are “a million to one.” Full story.

St. Charles partners with state to collect parking tickets, unpaid bills

St. Charles residents with unpaid parking tickets, utility bills or debts to the city will be seeing a smaller tax return this year. The city announced its partnership with the state under a new law that was passed this year to help local municipalities collect unpaid debts. Full story.

No problems to report early this morning on the area highways and tollways. Construction on Pingree Road between Cog Circle and Grandview Drive in Crystal Lake is continuing. People should use Route between Route 14 and Crystal Lake Avenue as a detour. Full story.

Cubs swept out west

Pitcher Ryan Vogelsong won his fourth straight decision, Buster Posey scored the go-ahead run on a double-play groundball by Joaquin Arias in the seventh inning and the San Francisco Giants beat the Chicago Cubs 3-2 on Monday for a four-game sweep. Worse, Cubs shortstop Starlin Castro forgot how many outs there were at one point and ran into the dug out after the second out was made in an inning. Full story.
