Learn healthy living tips at Batavia’s Green Walk
Submitted by Batavia MainStreet
Join the “Batavia Green Walk for Healthy Living” from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 8, from the Batavia Creamery, 4 N. Island Ave. to the Depot Pond in Batavia.
“The Fifth Green Walk is more expansive this year. Green Living is a wide circle and includes local food, active lifestyles, a clean environment and a strong, supportive community. Green Living brings a perfect theme to highlight the walk,” said Betsey Zinser, Green Walk coordinator.
“Downtown Batavia is a perfect place for walking green all year long. Let’s celebrate it.”
Ride your bike and be sure to check out all of the activities that will be offered. Secure parking will be available. Purchase some veggies at the Mini Farmers Market, learn Clean Green ideas for your home and go for a spin on a kayak or paddle boat for $10. You can even buy rain barrels for $90 and compost bins for $60.
There will be retailers of green products, including natural cleaning supplies, waste free lunch ideas, earth-friendly toys, organic pet treats and more.
Learn about opportunities to become a Steward of Our Natural World.
And don’t miss your chance to meet Batavia’s very own “Fit Foodie Chef” Jennifer Lamplough, local cookbook author and culinary instructor, who was recently featured on the Food Network’s “Fat Chef.”
Recycle, reduce, reuse. Drop off your old computer equipment for recycling. Hard drives must be free of all data; data removal will be offered for a small fee. No toner cartridges or audio speakers will be accepted.
Then, for the artist in you, there will be art activities for all ages featuring seed paper, paper flowers and Fox River clay.
Activities that are sure to inspire a healthy body and soul are scheduled at the Peg Bond Center band shell throughout the evening. Bring your own mat for free yoga, or dancing/workout shoes for free classes at the band shell.
Join the Batavia Academy of Dance for an All-Ages Hip Hop lesson at 5 p.m. and an Eco Dance performance at 5:35 p.m. Then stick around for Zumba at 5:50 p.m. and Boot Camp at 6:30 p.m. Live music begins at 7 p.m. with local musicians Michael Leo and Flo Kat to continue into the night.
