Hats off to all the donors & volunteers
On behalf of our many neighbors in need who are served by the Self-Help Closet & Pantry of Des Plaines, I would like to thank the Des Plaines community for your tremendous support of the May 12 National Association of Letter Carriers food drive and the May 5 “Paper for the Pantry” products drive sponsored by the Des Plaines Community Foundation’s Season of Service.
This year’s May 12 NALC food drive collected 21,142 lbs. of food in Des Plaines to benefit the SHC&P (compared to about 14,000 lbs. last year), which is something that our community can be quite proud of!
Thanks to those residents who put out a bag of food for their letter carriers and community volunteers to pick up on this day and thanks, too, to all those that donated their time to work at the food pantry, the post office or in between on May 12.
A special “thanks” to Giuseppe’s for donating pizza to feed hungry volunteers at the food pantry and, of course, to the letter carriers of Des Plaines who certainly went above and beyond on May 12.
Thanks, too, to the volunteers who collected paper products for the pantry outside of several Lee/Oakton stores on May 5 and to the shoppers who donated the items. The Self-Help Closet & Pantry is fortunate to have been a part since 1971 of a caring community such as the City of Des Plaines.
