Leyden makes Trinity sectional final
Leyden will try to win its first sectional softball championship since 1981 when it faces top-seeded Trinity at Triton College today at 11 a.m.
The No. 2 Eagles (29-7) advanced to the title game of the Class 4A Trinity sectional with a 9-2 triumph over No. 5 Lane Tech, the Chicago Public League champion.
Coach Kurt Schuett’s Eagles had defeated the Indians 3-1 on May 15.
Leyden senior shortstop April Markowski, who will play at Eastern Illinois next season, played a key role in Friday’s semifinal by going 3-for-4 with 3 runs.
DePaul-bound Morgan Maize earned her 24th win while her offense produced 13 hits for its 9 runs.
Denise Moran also had 3 hits for Leyden while teammates Kelly Bjorvik, Jen Hall (2-run triple) and Michelle Sansone each had 2.
Illinois-bound catcher Dana Sullivan added an RBI double.
