Streator’s Cravatta to walk on at NIU

J.J. Cravatta, a 6-foot-2-inch guard from Streator, will walk on to the Northern Illinois Huskies basketball team this fall, NIU announced Friday.

Cravatta holds the Streator Township High School record for career points scored with 1,960. He averaged 26.9 points per game his senior season, and his 779 points were the seventh-most for a single season in IHSA history.

Cravatta led Streator to its first regional crown in 43 years last season as he was named to the AP Class 3A All-State Second Team.

“We are pleased to have J.J. joining our program,” said NIU head coach Mark Montgomery. “He is a combo guard who had a great high school career locally and is a tough, hard-nosed kid with a good understanding of the game. We think he can have a positive impact on our program.”
