Palatine Parks offers entertaining children shows

Since 1991, Palatine Park District's Cultural Arts Coordinator Carol Lange has been scheduling the Daze Off series of shows. These shows are usually held in Cutting Hall Performing Arts Center and offer the perfect way to introduce your children to the theater experience. This summer, Daze Off will once again offer two shows that are designed specifically for a young audience.

The first show will feature Circus Boy, also known as Bobby Hunt from Ringling Brothers, Barnum and Bailey Circus. The show will take place at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 20 at Cutting Hall Performing Arts Center.

This high-energy performance features a blend of BMX trick bicycling, juggling, fire eating, audience participation, and riding the world's smallest bike. Bobby has performed on TNT, CBS, PBS, and “Ripley's Believe It or Not” and has opened for many acts including the Beach Boys, Weird Al Yankovic and Billy Ray Cyrus.

On Wednesday, July 18, Daze Off will feature Kaotic Drumline, a group based in Chicago. They have been drumming their way across the country performing at NBA games, corporate events, and festivals. The group is led by Jamie Poindexter who began the project as a message to young people in Chicago. He teaches the benefits of staying in school, away from gangs, drugs, alcohol and tobacco. He encourages everyone to use their talents to uplift themselves and others in a positive direction. The group's performances can include bucket drumming, street drumming and marching drumming. Their dynamic show will be held at 10:30 a.m. in the Community Center Gymnasium.

Tickets for these shows are just $6 per person, or $5 per person for groups of 20 or more. Tickets can be purchased at www.cuttinghall.org or by calling the box office at (847) 202-5222.

Daze Off productions are offered throughout the school year as well, usually on days off school in Palatine. For more information about Daze Off productions, contact Carol Lange, Cultural Arts Coordinator, at (847) 496-6237 or clange@palatineparks.org.
