Free Open House at Palatine Stables
Palatine Stables, a facility of the Palatine Park District, is hosting a free Open House event on Sunday, June 10 from 11:00am to 3:00pm. The Open House will be held at the stables, located at 1510 W. Northwest Hwy., Palatine.
Activities at the Open House will include free pony rides, free tours of the stables, and free riding demonstrations by members of the Palatine Stables Show Team. The Open House will also offer attendees the opportunity to learn more about the Show Team and lesson programs held at the stables. Palatine Stables offers safety oriented programs that focus on all areas of horsemanship. The variety of well trained school horses can accommodate all levels of riding, from introductory through the advanced hunter-jumper levels.
Introduction to Horsemanship is a class required for all new riders. Class covers basic horsemanship skills including safety, grooming, tacking and basic riding skills, thus building a foundation for the continuing riding program. New sessions begin the week of June 4.
The Little Kids Pony Camp is designed for children who show an interest in horses. The program will introduce the basics of grooming and working around the ponies, and daily pony rides are included. The program also offers crafts, stories and lots of hands-on time learning to be comfortable around the ponies. Summer sessions will begin June 18, July 2, July 16, and July 30.
The Horsemanship Day Camp will answer all of your questions about horses and will include 45 minute daily riding lessons as well. Basic horse care, crafts, games, and horse handling will be taught in an atmosphere where students will care for horses each day. Camps begin June 11, June 25, July 9, July 23, and August 6.
Pony rides are also available from the pony barn. Ponies can be rented for a ride down the pony path, or for half hour increments. Pony rides require adult supervision, and are designed for children under 4'6” who are 1 to 10 years old. Rides are available on Monday and Wednesday from 1:00pm to 3:30pm and on weekends from 9:30am to 12:00pm.
Plan a birthday or a play date to remember with a Pony Party. Parties are designed for 4 to 12 children with adult supervision. Pony Party activities include pony rides, pony prettying play time, and post pony partying. Parties are offered in the summer on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 12:00pm to 2:00pm or from 2:30pm to 4:30pm.
