South Barrington to see electricity savings

Residents and small businesses in South Barrington will see lower electric bills starting in August because of a power supply agreement reached with MC Squared Energy Services, LLC. Village customers will receive an electricity supply rate that will yield between 41 and 51 percent savings off the ComEd residential electricity supply tariff rate, saving residents hundreds of dollars annually, according to officials.

Over the next two years, the supplier will provide a fixed price of 4.425 cents per kilowatt hour. The comparable ComEd tariff rate is 7.533 cents per kilowatt hour during the 2012 summer months and 9.026 cents per kilowatt hour for the 2012 non-summer months.

In the coming weeks, customers will receive notices about the electricity aggregation program which voters approved in a March 20 referendum.
