New theater company to focus on ‘great musicals’

Local attorney, businessman and 20-year Palatine resident Elroy “Sandy” Sandquist announces the creation of the Fremont Street Theater Company Inc.

A longtime theater aficionado, Sandy’s childhood love for great theater was rekindled more than a decade ago when his young daughters were cast in productions by the Wood Street Theater Company.

“It changed their lives,” says Sandquist, “and their experiences on that stage helped shape them into the people they are today.”

Now that his daughters are grown, Sandquist wants to continue to offer an opportunity to those with a love of the theater to perform in great musicals at Cutting Hall.

“To the thousands of new and veteran actors, singers, dancers, instrumentalists, designers, directors, staff, and crew who have walked through the backstage doors on Fremont Street to perform on the great stage at Cutting Hall since it was built in 1928 — to these people is the Fremont Street Theater Company dedicated,” Sandquist said.

The Fremont Street Theater Company’s first production is Cole Porter’s “Anything Goes” Aug. 10-19.

Sandquist has assembled a veteran production team for “Anything Goes,” including Director Madeline Franklin; Musical Director Ken McMullen; Choreographer Peter Rasey; Jeff Greene, scenic and lighting designer; and John Congram, stage manager.
