Snappers drop Cougars 7-2

Scoring early and often, the Beloit Snappers opened a big lead en route to a 7-2 victory over the Kane County Cougars on Sunday night at Fifth Third Bank Ballpark in Geneva, tying the four-game series at a game apiece.

Aaron Brooks (3-6) couldn’t work around a first-inning error by Dean Espy as JD Williams reached and scored on a sacrifice fly by Miguel Sano to give Beloit the early advantage.

Two innings later, Jhon Goncalves doubled to bring home Sano and Adam Bryant, putting the Snappers up by 3.

In the bottom of the fourth, the Cougars (27-23) got a 2-run homer from Orlando Calixte off starter Jason Wheeler (6-1). Wheeler limited the Cougars to those 2 runs on 5 hits over 8 innings of work.

Kane County only had one other man reach third base as Justin Trapp got there in the eighth inning.

Brooks surrendered 9 hits in 5 innings while giving up 4 runs (3 earned). Beloit picked up a run in the fifth and 3 in the sixth to put the game out of reach.

Adam Bryant singled home Eddie Rosario in the fifth. Nate Roberts and Rosario each picked up an RBI during the sixth inning, and an Edul Escobar throwing error allowed Williams to come home.
