Unemployment offices closed Monday

SPRINGFIELD — Illinois Department of Employment Security offices will be closed Monday in observance of Memorial Day.

Website services will remain available. Those include filing for first-time unemployment benefits, certifying information to receive benefits, or switching payments to a direct deposit system.

The agency encourages recipients to sign up for direct deposit. It provides a no-fee debit card that can be used at some grocery stores, pharmacies and convenience stores. Fees are associated with some ATM transfers.

The department also urges businesses and individuals to use Illinois JobLink. It’s a website that allows businesses to post want ads and jobseekers to post resumes. Both are searchable in multiple ways.
