Hazmat crews in Des Plaines determine materials not a threat
Hazardous materials crews determined that suspicious liquids and materials discovered in a Des Plaines house during the course of a drug investigation Friday were determined to be benign.
Police were conducting their investigation on the 200 block of Norman Court when they found the unknown chemicals and called the fire department for backup at 3:27 p.m., according to Fire Chief Alan Wax.
“We activated the regional fire department hazardous materials team to assess the scene, render it safe, and identify the materials,” Wax said in a statement late Friday. “The team identified that none of the materials, as found, presented an explosion or toxicity hazard — and that the scene was safe for entry.”
Fire officials turned the scene back over to police about 8 p.m., as the investigation continued.
Police did not release further details Friday night.
