Firefighter injured in Grayslake pole barn blaze

A firefighter was injured this week battling a barn fire at the corner of routes 83 and 173 in Grayslake, authorities said.

Grayslake Deputy Fire Chief Greg Formica said the firefighter fell onto a hot ember while extinguishing the pole barn fire in the 32000 block of North Route 83. He said the firefighter was treated at the scene and went back to work.

No one else was injured in the blaze, Formica said.

The fire forced officials to shut down Route 83 for about an hour at about 5:15 p.m. Tuesday, Formica said.

The barn was used as a storage facility, Formica said, and contained a couple of old cars among other items.

The cause of the blaze is still undetermined.
