Bail set in Batavia stabbing, attempted murder
Bail has been set at $250,000 for Calvin Hayes, a 54-year-old Chicago man accused of stabbing a co-worker in Batavia this week, according to court records.
Hayes, of the 300 block of North Pine Street, is charged with attempted murder, aggravated battery causing great bodily hard and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, according to police.
He is next due in court on Wednesday. Hayes, charged with three felonies, faces up to 30 years in prison if convicted.
Batavia Police arrested Hayes Monday morning in the parking lot of Suncast Corp., 701 N. Kirk Road.
Hayes is accused of stabbing a co-worker, a 45-year-old Maywood man, in the neck after an argument. The two are co-workers and had just finished up their shift and were sharing a ride home, police said. A verbal argument escalated into a physical confrontation after which the victim went back into the business to summon assistance.
The victim was initially treated at the scene and eventually released from the hospital, police said.
