Gurnee’s Ultimate gymnast earns bronze in Regionals

The Level 8 girls’ team from Ultimate Gymnastics of Gurnee is celebrating after finishing up the season with some notable successes at the Region 5 regional competition.
Representing Illinois, the girls traveled to Bourbonnais to compete against the best gymnasts at their level from Indiana, Michigan, Ohio and Kentucky.
At the regional level competition is tough, but that didn’t stop Northbrook’s Carli Betman scoring 9.375 and coming away with a bronze medal on vault in the Senior D age group. Vault is certainly Carli’s strong point, the Glenbrook North freshman won silver on the same event at this year’s Level 8 Illinois State meet in March.
In the Senior B age group, floor exercise was where the Gurnee-based gym excelled. Katie Schroeder and Sara Becker tied for sixth place on this event, scoring 9.40 and teammate Maddie Jacobs was close behind with a seventh-place finish (9.35). Katie had a consistent meet, in addition to her floor success she notched up top 10 finishes on beam (9.40) and in the all-around (37.00).
Also placing top 10 in the all-around, this time in the Senior E age group, was Warren Junior Kelsey Stoecker. Her 36.30 score placed her eighth all-around. Her strongest event was uneven bars where she scored 9.225 and placed fourth.
Also placing in the top 10 at regionals in the Senior C age group was Hunter Bode. She scored 9.325 on floor exercise to finish eighth. Lake Forest’s Caroline Grumhaus, recovering from injury, competed on uneven bars in the same age group.

Maddie Jacobs (Grayslake): Vault: 8.50; Bars: 8.70; Beam: 7.825; Floor: 9.35 (7th); All-around: 34.375.
Katie Schroeder (Grayslake): Vault: 8.95; Bars: 9.25; Beam: 9.40 (5th); Floor: 9.40 (6th); All-around: 37.00 (8th).
Senior C age group: Hunter Bode (Lake Villa): Vault: 8.95; Bars: 8.60; Beam: 8.75; Floor: 9.325 (8th); All-around: 35.625.
Caroline Grumhaus (Lake Forest): Vault: scratch; Bars: 8.475; Beam: scratch; Floor: scratch.
Senior D age group: Carli Betman (Northbrook): Vault: 9.375 (3rd); Bars: 8.375; Beam: 9.10; Floor: 9.125; All-around: 35.975.
Senior E age group: Kelsey Stoecker (Gurnee): Vault: 9.075; Bars: 9.225 (4th); Beam: 9.075; Floor: 8.925; All-around: 36.30 (8th).
