Gurnee lifeguards receive award

Submitted by Jennifer Gilbert/Gurnee Park District

The Gurnee Park District Lifeguards have received the Ellis & Associates “Gold International Safety Award” for 2011 pursuant to consistently “exceeding” the criteria for aquatic safety certification.

Ellis & Associates is an International Lifeguard Training Organization that provides training, resources and auditing services for swimming facilities around the world. As part of the E&A Comprehensive Aquatic Risk Program, five unannounced audits are given to each client facility throughout the year to evaluate the effectiveness of training, supervision, and record-keeping as part of the audit process. This achievement represents the highest accomplishment an organization can receive from E&A. Only 30 percent of all E&A clients worldwide receive this award. Accordingly, Gurnee Park District guests are consistently being afforded with the highest degree of swimmer protection currently available for the aquatic industry.

When asked about this accomplishment, Scott Crowe, aquatic manager at Gurnee Park District explained, “We’re honored to win this award and know that it is only because of the hard work and dedication of our staff and the support of the community that we are able to achieve this.”

Lisa Sheppard, superintendent of recreation, said, “I wish to extend my profound congratulations to every member of the Gurnee Park District Aquatic Team for their commitment to professional excellence and desire to make a difference for those who frequent our aquatic facilities.”

The Gurnee Park District offers swimming programs and services during the summer at Hunt Club Park Aquatic Center and year-round at the Warren Township High School pool and at the Gages Lake Swimming Pool.
