Des Plaines Parks presents Kevin Kelley with excellence award

Kevin Kelley, mechanical maintenance worker and ball picker for the Des Plaines Park District, received the Dedicated to Excellence Award for the second quarter, at the May 15 Park Board Meeting by Paul Cathey, Superintendent of Parks and Planning.

Kelley was recognized for his creative maintenance solutions and exemplary work ethic.

Kelley began his career at the Des Plaines Park District at 14 working at the pools. He then graduated to the Parks Department at 16. Kelley returned to the District in November 2010, as the Mechanical Maintenance Worker and Ball Picker at Golf Center Des Plaines.

His responsibilities include turf repair; improvements and repairs to the automated tee-up system, ballroom, and conveyor; HVAC, plumbing, and mechanical maintenance; painting; and fabrication.

“Kelley always goes above and beyond what his job description entails,” said Ken Rochau, Building Services Supervisor.

On his own time, Kelley recently created a stainless steel shelf for the tee-up stations, improving the overall aesthetics of the decks.

“Kelley is a hard worker and completes tasks quickly to the highest standards. He thinks outside the box, and never shies away from a challenge,” said Don Miletic, Superintendent of Business and Golf Operations.
