Sigma Pi loses fraternity charter at Illinois Wesleyan
BLOOMINGTON, Ill. — A fraternity’s national organization has revoked the charter of the Sigma Pi chapter at Illinois Wesleyan University.
The Grand Council of Sigma Pi Fraternity International took the action after the death of a Sigma Pi member. Brandon Landau died March 4 after attending an off-campus fraternity event. The Winnebago County coroner says the 18-year-old freshman died of hypothermia with acute alcohol intoxication as a contributing factor.
Sigma Pi interim Executive Director Brian Alley says the Illinois Wesleyan chapter’s charter was revoked because it failed to abide by the fraternity’s rules and regulations.
The earliest the charter could be reinstated is May 2015.
