Westlake Christian Academy musicians receive awards

Westlake Christian Academy instrumental music students were awarded 29 first division ratings at the solo and ensemble competition held recently at Northwestern University in Evanston. Three of the first division ratings were perfect scores.

The following students received first division ratings on solos: Katharine Blom, Sarah Dominy and Natalie Sturm on clarinet; Emma Kolterman on bassoon; Rachel Blom, Lukas Kuehn and Sarah Newell on trumpet; Anna Jarratt (two awards) and Henry Kolterman on French horn; Hannah Blom and Melissa Luby on trombone; Charles Kolterman on euphonium; John Mark Clevenger on marimba and piano; and Ericka Beckman, Abby Leman and Taylor Wilcox on violin.

Receiving first division ratings on ensembles: Katie DeReus and Ericka Beckman, flute and violin duet; Natalie Sturm and Katharine Blom, clarinet duet; Casey Fotland and Noah Stiefelmayer, saxophone duet; Rachel Blom and Sarah Newell, Katie Worman and Hannah Slota and Lukas Kuehn and Zachary Cooper, trumpet duets; Anna Jarratt and Alina Lundholm, French horn duet; Sarah Newell and Alex Newell, and Anna Jarratt and Melissa Luby, mixed brass duets; Melissa Luby and Hannah Blom, trombone duet; and Alex Newell, Henry Kolterman and Charles Kolterman, mixed brass trio.
