Cougars swept in Wisconsin
GRAND CHUTE, Wis. — A 3-run first inning Monday helped carry the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers to a 7-4 victory over the Kane County Cougars, completing a three-game sweep at Fox Cities Stadium.
Jason Rogers opened the scoring as he tripled home Max Walla after Walla reached on an error by Orlando Calixte. Rogers then scored when Nick Ramirez laced a double to right. Ramirez scored to make it 3-0 on a sacrifice fly by Ben McMahan.
Kane County (23-22) closed the gap with a run in the second and another in the third.
Orlando Calixte doubled to the wall in left to score Michael Antonio when McMahan was unable to field the ball cleanly off the padding. Danny Mateo's RBI groundout in the third scored Justin Trapp to to make it 3-2.
Will West made his season debut for the Rattlers and held the Cougars to 3 runs (2 earned) in 5 innings. Aaron Brooks (3-5) worked 6 innings, striking out seven and allowing 4 runs (2 earned).
Wisconsin pulled away late as Walla picked up an RBI single in the seventh off Mike Giovenco. Nick Graffeo surrendered a pair in the eighth, including a solo home run to McMahan.
