<h3 class="briefHead">Protesters clash with police during NATO summit</h3>
About 45 people were arrested during clashes with police as world leaders met for the first day of the NATO summit in Chicago. Police said four officers suffered injuries, including one who was stabbed in the leg, and protests continued into the night. During an altercation with officers near McCormick Place, protesters hurled sticks and bottles at officers, who responded by striking them with their batons. Full story.
<h3 class="briefHead">Animals killed in roaring pet shop fire</h3>
Fire officials continue to investigate a Sunday morning blaze that destroyed a Beach Park pet store and killed many animals inside. Snakes, hamsters, fish, birds and several other animals died in the fire at Happyland Pet Center, 11432 Wadsworth Road. The owners, who lived above the shop, had left for the weekend and no injuries were reported. Damage was estimated at $650,000. Full story.
<h3 class="briefHead">Police investigating fatal Geneva motorcycle crash</h3>
The 48-year-old woman on the back of a motorcycle died after the bike crashed into a pickup truck in Geneva Sunday night, according to police. The Bolingbrook man driving the motorcycle crashed into the pickup after the vehicle made a U-turn on Kirk Road, police said. The victim had not been identified late Sunday night, but police said she was from Bolingbrook. Full story.
<h3 class="briefHead">Record number of students graduate from Harper College</h3>
A record 4,232 students graduated Sunday at Harper College in Palatine, which was 399 more than last year’s record. About 600 graduates listened to the keynote speaker, New York Times columnist David Brooks, explain what he called “the ripening virtues” that develop slowly and lead to character and success. “Unless your name is LeBron James or Mark Zuckerberg or Nas or Drake, you probably won’t be a millionaire by the time you’re 30. Like most of us, you’ll be a grinder. And your progress will come very gradually,” Brooks said. Full story.
<h3 class="briefHead">Hoffman Estates man dies in house fire</h3>
A 92-year-old Hoffman Estates man died Sunday morning after he was unable to escape a fire at his home. Firefighters pulled Emmett Keating from a bedroom of his single-story residence. Two others in the home managed to get out and were treated at the scene. A man who was visiting a friend on a neighboring street crawled into the burning home, but couldn’t see anything. Full story.

A cooler day today, but it is still expected to be gorgeous. It will only reach a high of 67 degrees this afternoon, and should only be about 60 degrees when people head out the door this morning. Temperatures will dip to about 50 degrees late tonight. Full story.

Traffic outside of Chicago is running wide open with very little problems to report this morning, but inside Chicago, there are numerous changes and shutdowns due to the NATO summit. <h3 class="briefHead">Sveum might change Cubs lineup after sweep</h3>
After the White Sox Sunday conclusion of a sweep of the Cubs, Cubs manager Dale Sveum said he is considering a change in the batting order. Although the wind was blowing out, the Cubs were blanked by Jake Peavy in the 6-0 loss. “I might think about changing things at the top of the order. Not that anybody’s doing anything wrong, just to change things. We aren’t producing any runs that way, so we might change things up there,” Sveum said. One possibility could be moving Starlin Castro back into the leadoff spot. Full story.
