Buchelt leads Lisle past Wheaton Academy
Mackenzie Buchelt hit a two-run homer, her 10th, in a three-run third inning, and top seed Lisle rallied from an early hole to beat Wheaton Academy 3-1 in the Class 2A Plano regional final. Melanie Early (20-2) struck out eight in a three-hit effort for the Lions (28-3), who advance to play Mt. Assisi in Thursday’s sectional semifinal in Genoa.
Mt. Assisi 6, Immaculate Conception 5:
A four-run Mt. Assisi fifth inning did in the top seed Knights (27-8) in the Class 2A Timothy Christian regional final. Katelyn Conenna, who was 2-for-4, hit a three-run homer in the third to stake IC to a 3-1 lead but shaky defense did in the Knights. Gabby Curran’s bases-loaded two-run double in the sixth pulled the Knights within 6-5. Jessica Conenna (20-6) struck out seven.
Glenbard West 8-11, Naperville North 7-14:
Tara Degl’Innocenti doubled three times in Game 2, and the Huskies (21-12) set a program win record in gaining a split of the doubleheader in Glen Ellyn. Kelly Borneman homered in Game 2 for Glenbard West, who scored 3 runs in the sixth, 3 in the seventh and 1 in the ninth to rally and win the first game.
Elk Grove 4, Waubonsie Valley 3:
No. 9 Elk Grove scored 4 runs in the sixth inning to beat No. 13 Waubonsie Valley (25-8) at the Stone City Jamboree. Waubonsie’s Amanda Minahan was hit by a pitch directly on the elbow in the fifth inning with the Warriors up 3-0, and did not return.
Montini 10, St. Ignatius 9:
Morganne Evans hit a three-run homer in a five-run third inning, then drove in the game-winning run with a fielder’s choice as the Broncos (21-13) rallied with 4 runs in the bottom of the seventh in Lombard. Sarah Stahelin’s pinch-hit two-run single tied it. Lauren Trojnar went 3-for-5 with 2 runs scored and 2 stolen bases for Montini.
Glenbard North 4, Elmwood Park 0:
Lilly Fecho (24-2) struck out six in five innings of two-hit ball, and also homered for the No. 1 Panthers (31-2). Alexis Simone also went deep for Glenbard North.
Metea Valley 9-16, Oswego East 6-15:
Anna Petersen went 4-for-5 with a homer, double and 3 RBI in Game 2, leading the Mustangs (17-16) to a doubleheader sweep. Alisa Perna tripled and drove in 3 runs in Game 2 and Lori Obendorf homered in the first game.
Minooka 12, Neuqua Valley 10:
Brooke Meyer and Alyssa Domico both homered, doubled and drove in 3 runs for the Wildcats (20-15), whose rally fell short in Naperville. Jamie O’Brien went 3-for-4 with a triple.
Willowbrook 12-6, Glenbard East 6-12:
Erin Sporer homered in the first game for Willowbrook (20-15).
Mother McAuley 5, Naperville Central 2:
Micaela Carney’s three-run double after a bases-loaded walk keyed a four-run fourth inning for the Mighty Macs. Maddi Doane tripled and scored on a Kelsey Gonzalez squeeze bunt in the first, and Juliet Tassi doubled and scored in the sixth for No. 6 Naperville Central (25-9).
Riverside-Brookfield 1, Downers Grove North 0:
Kylie O’Connell threw a three-hitter for R-B, who scratched across one unearned run to beat No. 7 Downers Grove North (29-6).
