Grayslake Central’s Goshe goes to Fremd
The man who took Grayslake Central’s football team from 0 wins to back-to-back state playoff appearance, and accomplished what athletic director Tom Kim called a great job of “garnering the support of the community,” has stepped down.
Nick Goshe submitted his resignation as head football coach and Life Fitness teacher to Grayslake’s school board Thursday night. He has agreed to join new head coach Lou Sponsel at Fremd as a coordinator.
“I thought he was great,” Kim said. “We wish him the best.”
Goshe joined the Grayslake Central program in 2007, after the Rams had won just four games in their last three seasons. They went winless in Goshe’s first season and then won just once in 2008. But the Rams finished 4-5 in 2009, then the following year enjoyed a 6-5 campaign, including the program’s first playoff win since 2003.
Grayslake Central went 7-3 last fall, qualifying for the Class 5A state playoffs again before losing to Tinley Park in the opening round of the playoffs.
