Huntley open house to feature model trains
The members of the Kishwaukee Valley and Eakin Creek Model Railroad Club of Sun City are busy preparing for their Spring Open House from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, May 20.
Garden scale crew members are cleaning and repairing over 40 buildings and structures and HO members have completed the canyon and lake and have added a fishing pier. The N gauge crew has doubled their layout size and is hard at work on a village and train yard. In addition, the O gauge crew is adding four new rides including an old-fashioned parachute drop to its popular miniature amusement park.
You can check out a three-minute video of the O gauge layout now running on YouTube, under "Coming 'Round the Mountain Train Song For Children: Lots of Toy Trains."
With the spring weather arriving early, the railroad club has begun weekend operations as the weather permits. Running times are from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturdays or Sundays, depending on the weather and availability of train crews.
Look for the "Trains Are Running" sign at the entrance to the parking lot by the ball field. Admission is free but they ask that children be accompanied by adults. Guests may call (847) 669-2392 or log on to the Sun City website at sccah.com to get updates for upcoming events.
All Sun City residents as well as family, friends, model railroaders and garden enthusiasts from across the area are invited to these events. While events are free, they do ask that all children be accompanied by adults. Both events will be held in the backyard and basement of the Milgrove Woodshop at 13400 W. Sun City Blvd. in Huntley.
Note that the club has added a messaging center. Residents and guests may call (847) 669-2392 or log on to the Sun City website at sccah.com for information on upcoming events.
