North Chicago savors victory
North Chicago’s softball program had a proud day Thursday.
The Lady Hawks notched their first varsity win in decades as the girls beat Lake Forest Academy 28-18 in nonconference action.
Seniors Jocelyn Moore, Breonna Wright, Amber Patton and Maribel Castillo led the way for the Hawks, who overcame a 16-3 deficit.
After trailing by 13 early, North Chicago played solid defense and showed patience at the plate, chipping away until breaking through with a 14-run seventh inning, coach Katie Cunningham said.
The coach couldn’t be more proud of her girls.
“We have girls who come out for our program who have never played before, who have no equipment, and no knowledge of the rules of the game,” Cunningham said. “I have always commended them for having the heart to show up every day and work on their skills.”
