<h3 class="briefHead">Suburban cops step up enforcement ahead of NATO summit</h3>

As delegates from roughly 60 nations arrive in town and protests begin to gain in magnitude, squads of specially trained suburban police will be staged and ready to react to any NATO-related problems spilling out of Chicago. Police are also ramping up their patrols around critical infrastructure and possible terror targets throughout the suburbs. "They are going to be staged in peripheral areas ... where they can go in to assist with anything," said Warrenville Chief Raymond Turano. "They are not going to be responding to the city of Chicago." Full story.

<h3 class="briefHead">College of DuPage and Glen Ellyn headed back to court</h3>

The College of DuPage and the village of Glen Ellyn are headed back to court because the village isn't abiding by a mediation agreement reached earlier this year, the college argues. The agreement transferred control of the campus from Glen Ellyn to DuPage County. COD's attorneys called village officials "overzealous" in the court motion filed Wednesday, citing their opposition to the college's campus expansion plans. Full story.

<h3 class="briefHead">Aurora police release photo of hit-and-run vehicle in fatal motorcycle crash</h3>

A motorcyclist who was seriously injured in a hit-and-run crash May 11 in Aurora has died, and police are still searching for the driver of the other vehicle. Aurora police yesterday released a photo of the vehicle, believed to be a white Chevy Traverse crossover from model years 2009 to 2012. The Traverse pulled in front of Maxwell Torres, 23, on Benton Street at Hills Avenue. Full story.

<h3 class="briefHead">Link: Any gambling expansion will include slot machines at Arlington Park</h3>

Waukegan State Sen. Terry Link said any plans to expand gambling in Illinois will include slot machines at Arlington Park. Link, a top gambling-expansion supporter, said if that doesn't happen, an alternative would be for casinos to pay a subsidy to the racetrack. Lawmakers are attempting to strike a deal before they leave Springfield at the end of the month. Gov. Pat Quinn does not believe the tracks should have slot machines. Full story.

<h3 class="briefHead">Teachers gather in Naperville to protest pension reform plan</h3>

More than 150 teachers and labor supporters gathered in Naperville yesterday to protest a pension proposal that would raise the retirement age to 67 and force them to increase their contributions to the state's pension fund. Supporters suggested adopting a $1 "speculation tax" on transactions at the Chicago Board of Options Exchange and the Chicago Mercantile Exchange as well as an elimination of tax subsidies for corporations. <h3 class="briefHead">Cops: Aunt being held on $200,000 bail after hitting 11-year-old</h3>

The aunt of an 11-year-old Winthrop Harbor girl has been charged after police say she hit the girl in the face with a spoon because she was struggling with homework. A teacher at Westfield School noticed the girl's injuries on May 11 and notified DCFS. The girl was treated at an area hospital, and Connie S. Neeley, 42, is being held in lieu of $200,000 bail on charges of aggravated battery to a child and aggravated domestic battery. Full story.

<h3 class="briefHead">Cubs suffer two game sweep by Phillies</h3>

Chris Volstad lasted just two innings against the Phillies Tuesday after giving up 4 runs and 6 hits to the Phillies, raising his record to 0-6 and his ERA to 7.46. The Cubs did come alive to try and get back into it, but fell short of a come back, losing 8-7 at Wrigley Thursday. Full story.

<h3 class="briefHead">Sox beat the Angels by a final of 6-1</h3>

Pitcher Chris Sale struck out seven and was working on a three-hit shutout in the sixth when he gave up a one-out homer to Angels first baseman Albert Pujols to push the White Sox to a win by a final score of 6-1 in Anaheim Thursday. Full story.
