Kudos, Lombard, on aggregation deal

It is all too common in our day-to-day life that we tend to focus on things that go wrong. Yet, from start to finish, Lombard’s handling of electricity aggregation was a beautifully-orchestrated example of something going so right that it deserves celebration because it worked with textbook model perfection: voters spoke, trustees listened, staff was diligent in their research, the public was given ample opportunity to voice their opinions, and our elected officials voted accordingly.

When the Lombard village board voted to contract for 100 percent green renewable energy, they brought citizens’ wishes to fruition and exemplified Lombard’s vision statement which reads, “Our shared Vision for Lombard is a community of excellence exemplified by its government working together with residents and businesses to create a distinctive sense of spirit and an outstanding quality of life.”

That vote was the culmination of a harmonious process that I would like to bring to the attention of those who have been conditioned to think otherwise, that their vote doesn’t count or that their voice won’t be heard.

As daunting as our governmental process may seem, the fact remains that, in order to enact change, participation in the process is necessary. Congratulations and thank you to all whose combined efforts will result in monetary savings for all residents and small businesses while simultaneously taking action to protect our health and that of future generations.
