Aurora motorcyclist, 23, dies after hit-and-run
The motorcyclist seriously injured in a hit-and-run crash May 11 in Aurora has died from his injuries and police still are searching for the driver of the other vehicle.
Police on Thursday released a photo showing the vehicle they believe was involved in the accident, which they believe to be a white Chevy Traverse crossover from model years 2009 to 2012.
The Traverse was heading east on Benton Street at Hill Avenue when it pulled in front of motorcyclist Maxwell J. Torres, 23, of the 700 block of North Glenwood Place in Aurora, who was heading north on Hill, authorities said.
Torres’ 1990 Honda GT647 motorcycle hit the Traverse on its rear passenger side at 12:56 p.m., but the Traverse kept going east.
Torres, who was not wearing a helmet, was taken to Rush-Copley Medical Center for treatment of serious head injuries. He later was airlifted to the University of Chicago Medical Center where he was pronounced dead about 5 p.m. Wednesday, authorities said.
The image police released Thursday came from security video taken at a shop a half-block from the crash. Police enhanced the image, but were not able to determine the Traverse’s license plate number. The vehicle should have damage to its rear passenger side, investigators said.
The video also showed a dark sedan of an unknown make and model that passed through the intersection of Benton and Hill less than 10 seconds before the crash and was heading the same direction as the Traverse — east on Benton. Police would like to talk with that driver in hopes he or she may have seen where the Traverse went after the accident.
Police spoke with two other motorcyclists who were in the area, but determined they were not traveling with Torres.
